Our Name

What does GoBeDo mean?

GoBeDo means taking action

by Michael Cordes, Founder of GoBeDo Missions

Some people are curious about our name, GoBeDo Missions. What does it mean? How did it come to be?

The name resulted from the first sermon I was asked to preach in the Philippines. My father-in-law asked me to give an hour-and-a-half convincing sermon in order to marry my wife!

For two weeks nothing came to me until the day I was to board the flight. When I landed in the Philippines, I had only a 22-minute talk. However, when I entered the church, I realized that I’d need a translator. Because of that, God had stretched my short talk into an hour-and-a-half sermon.

GO – teach and baptize

My topic was the gospel commission of Matthew 28:19, 20 to GO.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

BE – like Jesus

As we read the scriptures, we begin to understand that God is love, and His Son came here to show us the Father. He became poor so we could inherit riches and eternal life. He became our example, teaching us to BE like Him.

DO – what He asks

Finally, it occurred to me that if God could sacrifice His only Son for me and you, shouldn’t we as disciples also be willing to DO what He asks… whatever, whenever and wherever.

So, GoBeDo. That’s discipleship in action!

baptism
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

Won't you drop us a line?

We’d love to hear from you.
